The Family Center of Northern Durham is a unique space for all families in Durham County to come together, learn together, and play together. We offer a warm, friendly environment with a variety of programs for young children, their families and caregivers. These programs include a bilingual preschool, a family literacy program that includes an ESL class for Latino mothers, a play space, and a resource library.

 

Volunteers Needed for New Outdoor Play Area

 The Family Center is working with the Legacy Center to make drastic and wonderful improvements to our backyard play area. These include clearing overgrown plants and debris as well as adding a new sandbox, new toys, a playset, a riding track, a sound garden, a giant chalkboard, and much more. The estimated value of this improvement is approximately $10,000! 

In order to make it happen, however, we are in need of volunteers to help us with the cleaning up the yard and installing the donated items on the weekend of July 11th and 12th. Our gratitude goes out to the Legacy Center for recognizing our valuable programs and selecting the Family Center as their project. We truly appreciate their generous contribution and the opportunity to create an amazing outdoor play area for children in our community. 

 

Make and Take Crafts are Back!

The Family Center offers a "make and take" craft session for children and their caregivers every Friday. This is a great way to beat the heat this summer! Activities begin at 10:00am and the cost is $5.00 per family, per visit.

Summer Program Open to Older Children!

Preschool Now Enrolling for Summer

The Family Center's bilingual preschool, Children's Circle, is now enrolling children (ages 3, 4, and 5 years) for Summer 2009. The preschool is open on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Currently, slots are available for each of these days (although this may change; please call us for the latest information).

Our year-round preschool program offers children the opportunity to stretch their cognitive skills, build academic skills for success in school (such as word and number recognition), and develop critical social skills to get along with others.
